Remembering The Northeast Montana Fair

The NE MT Fair will be in full swing when this Courier edition comes out.

The “behind the scenes” activity and work will be forgotten for another year. We all recognize the work that goes into preparing exhibits and getting them to the fair, but we must recognize all of those that put in hours getting the livestock barns and other animal areas ready for you to exhibit in.

The building prep for culinary, floral, art and so many other projects. These things happen because of volunteers. We need to be willing to recognize that it would be very difficult to have a fair without these volunteers. Let’s all give them a big hand.

And on to memories. Do you remember when there were parking lot attendants? Or when the Carnival paid the Fair Commission for the privilege of being here? Speaking of the carnival, it presented many different things than we see now. And how about the Fish Wildlife display of live animals? That was always an attraction enjoyed by all.

Unfortunately we do not see the quantity of exhibits we used to. There were a lot of open class livestock exhibits, with dairy being one that comes to mind, and numerous exhibits of grain. Life changes and having a fair exhibit is not a driving point anymore I will admit this year I have joined the “Have Not” club but I do have goals of doing better next year. I do hope the fair is and was enjoyed by all.
