Glasgow Reds Play Two Double Headers; Lose Against Laurel Dodgers, Win Against Blue Jays

The Glasgows Reds had a busy two days this past weekend, July 6 and July 7, playing double-headers both days at Bill Connors Field in Glasgow.

The action began on July 6 at 2 p.m., with their first game of the series against the Laurel Dodgers. The Dodgers made sure the distance they traveled would be well worth it, scoring two runs in the first inning and continuing to achieve a run in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The Reds were only able to score one run, by Dylan Nieskens, early in the contest, and couldn't build the momentum to beat out the offense of the Dodgers.

Kevin McDonald took the loss for the Reds, lasting four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while strinking out four. Bryce Legare, Vinny Chappell and Cale Swanson each pitched one inning to try and keep the Dodgers' lead at bay. Kaden Fossum led the Reds with one hit in three at bats.

After a defeating loss to the Dodgers during the first game of the contest, the Reds tried to get mentally back into the game for the second game of the series at 4 p.m. Unfortunately, no matter how much effort the Reds put in, they could not counteract the offense of the Dodgers.

The Dodgers gained an early lead in the second inning, where they scored three runs after already scoring one run in the first inning. As the innings progressed, the Dodgers continued to bring in the batters, scoring a total of 15 runs in seven innings. The Reds were not able to score until the fourth inning, where they gained some momentum, scoring a run in the fifth and seventh inning.

Kaden Fossum took the loss for the Reds, surrendering seven runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two. Chase Guttenberg, Noah Lipszyc, Mark Eliason and Rance Rhoads all had a chance on the mound.

The Reds had eight hits in the game, with Kevin McDonald, Cale Swanson and Darrin Wersal each collecting multiple hits with Wersal, Swanson and McDonald each collecting two hits.

The second day of action for the Reds showed a completely different series of events. Action started at 1 p.m. on July 7 against the Billings Blue Jays at Bill Connors Field. At the beginning of the contest, it looked like the game would be a repeat from what the Reds experienced the previous day, however the Reds stepped up to the plate and made sure the runs came in.

In the first inning, the Blue Jays scored two runs to the Reds one run. In the bottom of the second inning however, the Reds decided to play ball and tie the game when Dylan Nieskens's sac fly scored one run. In the fifth inning, the Reds increased their lead by scoring three runs. The Blue Jays couldn't gain further momentum after the first two runs in the first inning, only scoring one run each in the sixth and seventh inning.

Darrin Wersal led the Reds to victory, allowing only six hits and four runs over six and a third innings, striking out 10. Vinny Chappell threw the remaining two thirds of an inning as relief, recording the last two outs to earn the save for the Reds.

Offensively the Reds totaled eight hits, with Tel Aune and Nieskens managing multiple hits for the Reds.
