Reds Go 3-3 vs. Billings, Wolf Point, Miles City

The Glasgow Reds have begun their busy 2019 season and finished six games in as many days this past week.

On June 5, the team traveled to Billings for a double-header match up vs. the Billings Cardinals. The Reds dropped the first game, 7-6, but came back strong in the second contest and made a statement with a 15-4 win over the Cardinals.

Glasgow took the loss in the final play of the first game. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the ninth, with Billings at the plate, when Spencer Berger hit a sac fly that scored one run for the Cardinals.

The Reds collected nine hits in the game, with several singles scattered throughout the contest. They also recorded a costly nine errors overall. Cale Swanson recorded the only RBI in the game and Dylan Nieskens had one stolen base.

Kristian Price, Kevin McDonald and Nieskens executed a double play in the fifth inning to shorten the Cardinals' time at bat.

McDonald took the loss for Glasgow. He surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two. He faced 30 batters and tossed 95 pitches. Tel Aune provided relief on the mound in the final innings.

Glasgow clinched the win in the second game thanks to a sixth inning rally that scored them nine runs.

The rally was led by singles by Price, Vinny Chappell and JT Sprague, a walk by Kaden Fossum, a triple by Gavin Adkins, and a single by Nieskens.

Tel Aune, Price, and Chappell each had multiple hits for the Reds, with Aune leading with three hits in five at bats.

Darrin Wersal was the winning pitcher for the Reds. He lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out seven and walking one. He faced 27 batters and threw 90 pitches in the game.

The Reds played their final pair of games of the week in Miles City on June 9. The Mavericks beat the Reds in both contests, winning 10-9 and 11-2.

The first loss for Glasgow came after a sixth-inning score by Miles City that pulled them into the lead. Glasgow had an opportunity in the seventh inning to either tie the game or grab the victory, but they were unable to capitalize.

The Reds did have 12 hits in the game compared to Miles City's nine. Legare, Cremer, Nieskens, and Chase Guttenberg all collected multiple hits for Glasgow, with Guttenberg, Nieskens, Cremer, and Legare each recording two.

Adkins started off on the mound for the Reds, going five innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and striking out two. He faced 27 batters and delivered 88 pitches. McDonald took the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits over one inning, striking out one and walking zero.

The second game slipped away early for Glasgow and they could not recover in the 11-2 loss against the Mavericks.

The Reds were unable to score until the fourth inning when McDonald drove one run in and Price scored on a Maverick error.

The Reds' defense was highlighted by a double play in the second inning executed by Price at third base to Wersal at first base, and another by Chase Guttenberg in the third inning.

Cremer took the loss on the mound for Glasgow. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out two. He tossed 85 pitches in the game. Fossum finished the game on the hill, pitching the final inning.
