14U Scotties Tearin' Up the Diamond

Shut-outs, Grand Slams and Stolen Bases Highlight

The 14U softball girls had a trio of wins on June 1 when they faced Glendive Red and Sidney at Sullivan Field.

The three-game stretch began at 10 a.m. when Glasgow faced Glendive and earned their first win of the day, defeating the Red in less than four innings.

The Scotties began the game with 17 runs in the first two innings alone, and eventually shut out Glendive 21-0 without a single error.

Daley Aune and Brielle Partridge shared the duties on the mound, combining efforts to throw the shutout. Partridge was credited with the win. She surrendered zero runs on one hit over three and a third innings, striking out five, walking zero and picking off one runner. Aune threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Samantha Tryan led Glasgow Scottie's 14U with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.

At the plate, the Scotties racked up 13 hits, with Aune leading the way. She went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in seven runs on a single in the first, a grand slam in the second, and a double in the third.

That afternoon, the Scotties played a double-header against Sidney and chalked up two more wins, 10-5 and 15-6.

Partridge claimed the win in the circle for the second time of the day, surrendering one run on six hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Offensively, Glasgow had another good showing with multiple hits throughout the contest. Aune had three hits in three at bats, and Stevie Hartwell, Ashley Meland, Thea Moore and Tryan recorded several RBIs.

In their second contest against Sidney, Glasgow exploded at the plate with 12 runs in the first inning. Sidney couldn't muster up enough offensively to make a difference, but did manage to bring in six runs.

The Scotties collected 11 hits on the day with Hartwell, Kat Malnaa, Aune, Moore, Partridge, 2; Eve Stone and Tryan all contributing. Glasgow's squad stole eight bases during the game as three players stole more than one.

Aune was credited with the victory for Glasgow Scottie's 14U. She lasted one inning, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out one and walking zero. Moore threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Thursday, June 6

In another pair of home games, the Scotties faced the Williston Oilers on June 6 and finished with one win and one loss.

In the high-scoring first game, Glasgow claimed a 13-10 win over Williston. The Oilers struggled in the field, committing eight errors in the game. At the plate for the Scotties, Aune led the way, going two-for-four. She also led her team in stolen bases with four of the team's total of 11.

In the first inning, with runners on the corners for Glasgow and a 2-2 count, Carly Nelson doubled, scoring two runs. Four more runs were added for the Scotties on a pair of singles and a number of errors by Williston.

The Oilers were able to bring in three runs before the inning came to an end. After a few low-key innings, the Scotties poured on the offense in the fourth inning, scoring another six runs. Glasgow took full advantage of a number of errors and ineffective pitching by the Oilers to extend their lead to 13-6. At the plate, the Scotties filed through the batting order, notching six runs, and on the base paths, the Scotties were relentless. The team recorded several stolen bases, including a steal of home by Aune for a run.

Ashley Meland earned the victory on the rubber for Glasgow. She went three innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out four. Partridge threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Following the win for Glasgow, the teams took the field for a second game. This time, Williston got the best of the home team, defeating them by six runs, 10-4.

The Scotties and the Oilers traded runs in the first and second innings, but Williston pulled away for good in the third inning, scoring three runs to Glasgow's one.

The Oilers continued their offensive run with six more runs in the game while the Scotties were only able to manage two runs in the final inning.

Meland, Partridge and Tatum Nyquist brought in the team's four runs, and Nyquist had a sweet double play that closed out the Oilers' fourth inning turn at the plate.

Partridge and Aune shared the work on the mound for the Scotties, each throwing three innings. Partridge led things off, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four.

Saturday, June 8

On Saturday, June 8, the Scotties were on the road to Glendive for two games, facing the Sidney 14U and the Glendive Red. The Scotties secured a win in both contests, with a shut-out vs. Sidney highlighting the day.

Glasgow had a big first inning, bringing in five runs off a string of singles and stolen bases, including a steal of home by Meland.

The Scotties stole 11 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Partridge led the way with three.

Along with Nyquist, Partridge also led in hits for the Scotties, with each collecting two in the game. Recording a combined nine RBIs at the plate were Aune, Meland, Moore, Nelson and Tryan.

Aune was credited as the winning pitcher for the contest. She lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine and walking zero. Partridge threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

For their second game of the afternoon, the Scotties faced the Glendive Red. While Glasgow trailed 8-7 in the top of the fourth inning, they managed to edge out the Red 10-9 with a scoring burst in the final innings.

With just two hits in the game by K. Malnaa and S. Malnaa, most of the runs scored came from walks and errors by Glendive, and 12 stolen bases by the Scotties.

Nyquist was the winning pitcher for Glasgow. She lasted two innings, allowed four

hits and four runs and struck out three. Meland and Moore provided relief on the mound in the finalinnings to help close out the game.
