Tom Lund, 91, born in Hinsdale, Mont., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at St Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Mont., from congestive heart failure with his family gathered around him providing him with love and support.

Tom Lund's memorial will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at Fort Peck Rec Hall, Fort Peck, Mont., at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served.

Tom was cremated and it was his wish to be buried in Fort Peck when his beloved wife is buried so there will be no burial at this time.

Tom spent most of his life around the Fort Peck, Glasgow and Nashua areas. Tom lived his last years in Frenchtown, Mont., at the home of his youngest daughter Tammie and Dwayne Smith with his beloved wife, Betty, of 64+ years.

Tom was born March 22, 1928, in Hinsdale to Hilmer Lund and Anna (Croxton) Lund.

Tom had a zest for life and an extreme will to live that amazed any and all. He always had a childhood story to tell someone, from his dog Butch, to the rattlesnakes on the porches, to the fights he and his brothers, Jim and Bill, got into. Tom helped his dad, Hilmer, on their ranch for many years. He always gave credit to his sister Junne for being the best at milking the cows, his sister Leora for helping their mom keep the house in order and his sister Viola for being the one he wished he could look after more. Tom was the last of his siblings to have passed away.

On Jan. 15, 1955, Tom Lund married the love of his life, Betty Jane (Sand) Lund. Tom worked for the Army Corp of Engineers in Fort Peck most of his adult life.

He is survived by his wife of 64+ years Betty Lund; and his five children, Jack Lund (Pearl), Gwen Tvedt (Steve), Stacey O'Tremba (Randy), Ruth Young and Tammie Lund Smith (Dwayne). He is preceded in death by his son Darrel Gene Lund (1956).

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Scott Lund (Debbie-Maggie, Kylie), Shanda Adams (Erik-Meghan, Kaylah, Naleah, Loghyn, Brett), Adam Tvedt (Melissa – Adison, Abigail), Lukas (Mandy – Miles, Nolan, Wyatt), Amanda Oster (Joe-Sophia, Isaiah), Jamie Bucher (Scott – Dylan, Josiah, Brynn), Ashley O'Tremba (Sam Catlett), Mike Young, Savannah Young (- Jorden), Johnathan Fagan (Shannon -John, Jr.), Patrick Fagan (Krystal), Samantha Hallenberg (Joseph-Adelyn), Kelli Cooper (Kyle), Kami Smith (Nick-Wesson), Jacob Smith and Brenden Smith.

Tom was so close to Betty's siblings and their spouses it made for a happy family and great conversations. He had a love and respect for all of his wonderful nieces and nephews.

Tom loved his friends, his horses and his family. He loved to bowl, play basketball, play softball, rope and brand. He loved storytelling and everyone loved to hear his stories.

Tom's greatest legacy is his family and his identity in life was his big heart, hearty laugh, mischievous grin and his true lifelong title of Montana Cowboy. You couldn't say the word "Cowboy" without a smile on your face and thinking of Tom Lund. If a friend or a neighbor needed help Tom Lund was always there to lend a helping hand and he brought humor to the event.

Tom was a member of the VFW. His family is proud of the service time he did for our country. He served active duty in the Army from March 11, 1952, to March 11, 1954.

Tom is extremely missed every day by his family and friends, their lives are forever altered. During his time on this blessed earth he led a very full and vibrant life.

His wife and children want to send a special thank you to Tom's granddaughter, Samantha Hallenberg, and to his great-granddaughter Adelyn Hallenberg for the amazing love and care that each of you provided to him in his last years. Adelyn kept him young and wanting to live and Samantha kept him healthy.
