Artist of the Month Reception

When the Fort Peck Summer Theatre matinee is over, extend your evening of Northeast Montana's fine art culture by stopping by the Wheatgrass Arts & Gallery, 523 2nd Ave. So. in Glasgow.

During the months of June, July and August, the Gallery will be hosting its Artist of the Month receptions on the first Sunday of each summer month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wine and dessert will be served.

June's Artist of the Month is Janet Sullivan. Sullivan's love of painting has led her to a 45-year career as a landscape artist. Janet's work has been included in invitational art shows across the West. They include 15 years in the C.M. Russell Auction, Hockaday Museum of Art, Yellowstone Art Museum Auction, and more. Recently she was chosen to be an associate member of the Women Artists of the West. Sullivan was awarded artist-in-residencies at two National Parks.

Originally from Colorado, she has earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of Boulder and studied with Clyde Aspevig, Matt Smith and Jim Wilcox. Her landscapes captured the fleeting beauty of the American West free of human influences, mostly painted in oil and pastels. During the summer months she paints on location for images to be used on enlarged paintings in the studio. In the winter, Sullivan expands her imagination by painting colorful skyscapes, tonal paintings and contemporary paintings with subjects ranging from the universe, geological concepts and abstracts. "The phenomena of light and color in the landscape intrigue me. I paint those elements that evoke a sense of elation and wonder of this in," she said.

Come join us on Sunday, June 2, and celebrate Janet Sullivan as June's Artist of the Month.
