Scottie Softballers Playing with Guts

The Lady Scotties took on the Fergus Lady Eagles at Jeff Jurgens Field on April 9. Glasgow played a tight game through the third inning when the score was 9-8 in favor of Lewistown. The Lady Eagles pulled ahead in the final two innings with a 16-run scoring streak. The Lady Scotties were able to add an additional six runs to their score as well, but dropped the game to Lewistown 25-14 in five innings.

"You wouldn't think so by looking at the score," said head coach Ryan Hartwell, "but it was a fun and competitive game. For us to compete and score that many runs was fantastic."

With senior Aurora Chappell out with an injury, Hartwell switched some positions and changed the Scottie's defense. "I think it really helped," he noted.

Hartwell utilized a trio of fairly green pitchers on the mound against the Lady Eagles. "I can't say enough about the guts of these girls going in and pitching for us," he explained. "They really stepped up and battled for us."

States for the game include: Alexys Mann – three at-bats, two hits, two doubles and four RBIs; Devon Johnson - three at-bats, one hit, one single and one RBI; Lylie Foster – two at-bats, one hit; Laura Ross – three at-bats, one hit, one single and two RBI's; Taylor Pederson - three at-bats, one hit, one double and two RBI's; Madison Collinsworth - three at-bats, one RBI; Meranda Bechel – one at-bat, one hit, one single and one RBI; Chloe Moore - three at-bats, one hit, one single.

On April 13 Glasgow was on the road to Lewistown for an invitational and were matched up against Conrad and Shelby.

Conrad made quick work of their game against Glasgow, defeating the Lady Scotties 15-0 in three innings. The loss apparently ignited a spark in Glasgow as they dominated over the Shelby Lady Coyotes in their next game of the weekend, which they easily won in three innings, 16-1.

While the Lady Scotties got a few hits in against Conrad, they really shined offensively against Shelby. Mann finished with two doubles, two singles and two RBI's; Johnson had a triple, a double, and brought in three runs. Ross batted in two runs off a pair of doubles and one single and Tweten finished the game with a double in one of her at-bats. Collinsworth recorded two doubles and brought in a run to score, Isabelle Hobbs-Montoya brought in one run off two singles, and Abby Engstrom hit a single and a double, bringing in two runs for Glasgow.

The Lady Scotties will host Havre on Tuesday, April 23, at Jeff Jurgens Field.
