Lustre Celebrates 54 Years of Schmeckfest

Lustre Christian High School hosted their annual fundraiser known as Schmeckfest March 22. This was the 54th year for the school's only major fundraiser. According to Susan Fast, one of the organizers, this year's totals have not been fully realized, but in the past she said they bring in around $80,000 just from the evening of food and vendor sales.

As a private Christian school, Lustre Christian uses the annual fundraiser to help keep tuition fees low. Fast explained that Schmeckfest is the only major fundraiser for the school and that the support for the school has been exceptional.

"This is a huge blessing to our school," said Fast, "to have this fundraiser." She added that this year's total was 753 people served and the event went over "very well." According to Fast, the event also brings in donations from community businesses from Glasgow, Wolf Point and Scobey. About those donations she said, "We are very grateful for their donations as well."

A Schmeckfest, or festival of tasting, is a celebration honoring Mennonite culture and food. Lustre's Schmeckfest features an all you can eat smorgasbord of German foods as well as bake sales, vendors and auction items that both celebrate the unique Lustre community and raise funds for the school. In the end, all the funds raised go to help the school's operations, and during the 2018- 2019 school year Lustre Christian has been educating between 20 and 30 students.
