Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Pot Luck Cafe Opens in Hinsdale

Gary Luck is in his element. It's 5 p.m., dinner time, and people are waiting for food, his homemade food, which tonight includes prime rib and glazed pork loin. He is clearly enjoying serving and talking about his food, while his partner, in life and business, Lynelle Boucher, gathers drinks and suggests slices of her homemade carrot cake to complete the meal.

They bought the old Nelson's Repair building in May 2018 and utilizing Gary's extensive construction experience (he built homes in Virginia for over 35 years) turned the once oil-stained floors and walls into a warm dining room and shiny new kitchen.

It's a simple operation. Come through the door and you're greeted with a smile and a serving line. The limited menu, which has daily standard favorites and seasonally available specials, is on a whiteboard to your left, and can also be found on their Facebook page.

Breakfast will always have Gary's biscuits and gravy, made-to-order omelets, bacon, ham, and sausage. At lunch, you'll always find a smoked/BBQ meat like ribs and pulled pork. And for dinner, served only on Fridays and Saturdays, offerings change each week. Sunday's extended brunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. is a great stop after church.

Catering is also offered and this is where Gary's 12 years as an outfitter cook for Milk River Outfitters really comes into play. The training he received at The Royal Tines Guide School has prepared him well and he's more than used to feeding many very quickly. The use of the building is included at no charge for catered events and parties. Maximum occupancy is 44 and while they don't serve alcohol, it may be brought in.

Gary and Lynelle want to thank the entire community for the support and love that they've been shown since opening. They laughed simultaneously when they explained that the goal before opening the restaurant was to hopefully do 10 meals per day. Based on my Saturday night experience, that's gonna be very achievable. I'll definitely be back.

The Pot Luck Cafe is located on Highway 2 in Hinsdale and can be contacted at 406-942-2107.
