Boys Rack up Penalties

The Glasgow Bantam Ice Dawgs traveled to Glacier to take on the Avalanche and were buried, not under snow, but under penalty minutes.

Saturday, the Dawgs managed to close out the final period with a tie, 4-4, despite having racked up a staggering 77 penalty minutes, far outpacing the Glacier’s measly six minutes of shame. One bench minor and four 10-minute misconduct penalties accounted for 50 of the 77 penalty minutes, leading to Tatum Hansen, Michael Hoyer, and coach Jesse Hystad missing Sunday’s game.

Hoyer scored in the first, giving Glasgow a 1-0 lead at first intermission. The second period saw the two teams go goal for goal, ending the period with Glasgow holding a one-goal lead. Jackson Bishop put one between the goalposts at 11:42 and Hoyer, assisted by Trevor Dulaney was on the board again at 7:03.

The Avalanche opened up the third period, scoring two in a row to take the lead. But Glasgow tied it up on a goal by Zevin Kummerfeldt, assisted by Hoyer. The Ice Dawgs threw nine shots at the Avalanche goalie, while facing 17 in their own end.

On Sunday, the Avalanche spent twice as much time in the penalty box as the Dawgs, 32 minutes to 16. Unfortunately, they also outpaced Glasgow on the scoreboard, putting nine pucks in the net compared to Glasgow’s three. Glacier outshot Glasgow, 40-14.

Dulaney put the Dawgs on the scoreboard in the first period on a power play goal. The second period saw Dulaney assisting Colter Barnett on an even-handed play. Dulaney scored again in the third, giving Glasgow their third and final goal in the game.
