Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Eva Irene Main

Eva Irene Main went home to heaven on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at the age of 94.

She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Dupree, S.D. She was the daughter of Claude and Ella (Lammert) Main. She grew up on the family farm north of Dupree. She attended eight years of elementary school at the Main School and in May of 1942 she graduated from the Dupree High School. The following summer she attended the Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish.

After several years of teaching, Eva returned to college and graduated Cum Laude in May of 1971 with a B.S. Degree in Education. The ranch was located on Pretty Creek, 12 miles north of Dupree, and they farmed and ranched there for many years. In 1997, they retired and moved into Belle Fourche, S.D., where they enjoyed living by their lifelong friends, Gwyn and Jessie Jewett. Wallace died in 2011 and for the past two years, Eva has been a resident at the Crook County Long Term Care Center in Sundance, Wyo.

Eva was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed music and dancing. She was loving, selfless and a woman of faith. She enjoyed traveling, playing card games, and she loved her children and grandchildren very much. She was patriotic and a faithful Republican. One of Eva's blessings was the joy of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her church, community, and the many students she taught over the years.
