Fast, Nieskens Lead Scotties to Second-Place Finish at Home Invite

The Glasgow Scotties had a full weekend of wrestling with duals held Dec. 7, and the 23rd Annual Scottie Invitational held Dec. 8.

The Scotties scored three wins and one loss in the Friday night duals, falling only to the Sidney Eagles, 48-21, and defeating Glendive, 69-6, Hardin, 54-21, and Choteau, 69-6.

The duals were a good warm-up for the next day's competition as the Scotties hosted 17 teams total for their invitational. "Most of the Eastern Division was here," explained head coach Jory Casterline. "Plus the usual teams from the Hi-Line: Poplar, Malta, Chinook, Harlem, Choteau."

Overall, the Scotties finished second behind Sidney for the day, and had some great individual performances.

Just about half of the Scottie matmen contributed to the final 143.5 points for Glasgow, with the always-consistent Colten Fast leading the way with his first-place finish.

Other placers for the home team were: Jake Kuka - fourth at 103; Oden Hallock - third at 138; Kaden Zimmerman – third at 145; Kyler Hallock – fourth at 152; Ty Kittleson – fourth at 170; Dylan Nieskens – second at 182; and Mayson Phipps – fourth at 285.

"We didn't lose a lot of matches that we were favored in," said Casterline in a review of the day. "We have a lot of things to work on," he added, "But it is early in the season. We definitely have to stop giving up the bonus points, and we need to be getting them instead."

The Scotties will be on the road for more action this coming weekend with matches in Fort Benton on Thursday, Dec. 13 and the always tough CMR Holiday Invitational on Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. "We've got another full weekend of wrestling and a lot of matches," said Casterline of the three-day trip.
