Corpron Agrees to Plea in Drug Case

In a plea agreement filed Nov. 16, Darrell Lee Corpron pleaded guilty to two felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs (methamphetamine). Each count carried a maximum sentence of five years in the state prison and/or a fine up to $5,000. Corpron had initially faced three felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs (methamphetamine) and one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia from an incident in March, 2018.

In agreeing to the deal, Corpron admitted to possessing 2.0 grams of methamphetamine in a baggie and 10.9 grams of methamphetamine in a small glass jar, both found in a hidden compartment in his vehicle. The State recommended a sentence of five years in the state prison with two years suspended for each count, but deterrred from making a recommendation regarding any fines.

Per filing documents submitted to the court in April, the defendant was arrested after an employee of the Northern Lights Casino in Glasgow called to report a man sitting in his vehicle. A Glasgow police officer responded and made contact with the man, later identified as Corpron. During the exchange, the officer noted suspicious behavior, including conflicting accounts regarding a ride, physical actions, and the use of multiple cell phones.

After learning the man had an outstanding warrant, Corpron was arrested. A canine free air sniff was conducted by a Montana Highway Patrol officer who had also responded to the scene. Based on the response of the canine, the vehicle was seized pending an application for a search warrant. The Tri-Agency Drug Task Force, along with representatives from multiple law enforcement agencies, conducted a search of the vehicle in March after obtaining a search warrant and discovered multiple items suspected to be either drugs or drug paraphernalia. Field tests indicated positive for methamphetamine and the evidence was submitted to the crime laboratory for analysis.
