Lady Mavs Finish With One Win at Divisionals

Following a clutch performance at the District 3C tournament on Oct. 26, the Lady Mavericks made their way to the divisional tournament held in Sidney, Nov. 2 and 3.

The North Country girls faced Ekalaka in their first match of the tourney on Thursday morning. They took a loss against the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 9-25, 11-25, 16-25. The loss pushed them into a loser-out game vs. Circle the next morning.

With three consecutive set wins against the Lady Wildcats (25-21, 26-24, 25-12), the Lady Mavs stayed alive in the tournament and were paired up against the Lady Longhorns, of Wibaux. Unfortunately for North Country, Wibaux dominated the entire match, defeating the Lady Mavericks in three quick sets, 25-13, 25-20, 25-9. The match finished the season for North Country.

Kaitlyn McColly led in three categories in the Lady Mav's first match vs. Ekalaka. She recorded six of 10 kills, 14 of 34 digs and five of 16 blocks. Also contributing were Jaycee Erickson with five of nine assists and Danika Soper with an ace.

In the match against Circle, three of the Lady Mavericks shared top numbers in two categories. Jayden Erickson, Jaycee Erickson and McColly each finished with two of eight blocks, while Soper, Jaycee Erickson and Kia Wasson each finished with three of 10 total aces for the team. Jayden Erickson also led in kills while Jaycee Erickson finished with half of the team's 24 assists. McColly recorded a team high 13 of 62 digs for the match.

In their final match against Wibaux, Wasson led the team in kills with eight of 20 and Jaycee Erickson topped two categories with 11 of 18 assists and three of 12 blocks. Sarah Boucher shared the blocking category with Erickson as she also finished with three of 12. McColly led in two categories, finishing with 14 of 39 digs and three of four aces.
