Lady Scotties Finish Third at District 2B, Stay Positive About Upcoming Divisional Competition

A disappointing loss to Malta ended the District 2B Volleyball Tournament for the Lady Scotties on Oct. 27.

According to head coach Somer Hoerster, going into districts, the Scotties spent some time working on their serve receive and were focused on using an attack at every opportunity "We've also been working on a lot of play at the net," she added. " I've been trying to put the girls in tough positions in drills where they have to jump and decide in the air whether to block the ball, swing, or pull off and pass. I can see that we've come a long way just from doing that."

Glasgow opened up the tournament on Oct. 26 with a win against the M-Ettes, taking the match in four sets, 25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 25-18. The win against Malta advanced them to play against the Wolf Point Lady Wolves at 4:30 p.m.

Although the Scotties demonstrated determination, they were only able to win one set during the four-set match and lost to the powerful and tall Lady Wolves, 18-25, 26-24, 11-25, 14-25.

In a loser out match the following day, Glasgow found themselves back on the court to face the M-Ettes for a second time. While the Scotties took the first set 25-16, they struggled for the rest of the match and didn't win another set. Malta prevailed in the last three sets, 25-15, 25-23, and 25-18, to earn second-place hardware in the district. The Wolf Point Lady Wolves claimed the top spot.

"Really, what killed us this weekend was our serve receive passing and our hitting errors," explained Hoerster. "We just stayed in defense for too long when our offense couldn't put the ball down. We know we can play much better than we did."

Despite the loss, the third-place finish ensured that the Scotties will be traveling to Cut Bank for the Divisional competition that begins on Thursday, Nov. 1. Hoerster said they are staying positive about the upcoming tournament. "We will continue to work on our play at the net," she stated. "Since we are shorter than most of the teams we play." Glasgow will take on the Lady Eagles from Fairfield in the fourth match of the day, which is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
