Scotties 36, Wolf Point 7

The Scotties picked up another conference win in Wolf Point on Oct. 5, and improved their overall record to 4-2.

Going into the game, the Scotties' head coach Pat Barnett, wasn't really familiar with how the Wolves were playing this season. After the match-up on Friday, he noted that they are probably the best team Wolf Point has had in a while. "They were a disciplined team," he recalled.

Although Glasgow defeated the Wolves 36-7, it was a long first half, according to Barnett. "We scored right away in the first quarter," he said, "and then once more before the quarter ended. After that, it was a dog fight." Tayson Hoerster scored the first touchdown of the game off of a pass from Alec Boland. Just minutes before the quarter came to an end, Boland connected with Dexter Monson to light up the scoreboard again. Boland finished the drive with a successful two-point conversion that stretched the score to 14-0. Neither team would score for the rest of the half.

Glasgow picked up steam in the second half, with Boland running the ball in to tack on an additional six points in the third quarter.

The Wolves showed their determination when they scored a touchdown and finished it with a successful kick for seven points. "They didn't give up," noted Barnett. "Even when it was 14-0 in the first quarter, they kept playing."

Making a statement in the fourth quarter for the Scotties were the Hinsdale boys. Loden Idler and John McColly had back-to-back pick sixes, "It was seriously deja vu," said Barnett, followed by an extra point each to secure the game-winning score of 36-7.

Offensively, McColly led in rushing for the Scotties with 87 yards, followed by Jesse Lee with 36 yards and Boland, also with 36 yards.

Hoerster had the most receiving yards with 52 followed by John Cremer with 32 and Monson with 20. Also contributing were Idler with 3, Tel Aune with 11 and McColly with 5. Boland threw 123 yards, completing eight of 16 in the game.

Defensively, Jaden Hughes dominated with 17 total tackles, including two sacks. Mayson Phipps, a sophomore, completed 15 tackles and the remaining 30 tackles were dished out by: Aune 6, McColly 8, Britt Fairclough 1, Cordell Younkin 7, Kyler Hallock 1, Boland 1, Kristian Price 3, and Hoerster 3.

This Friday, Oct. 12, Glasgow hosts Baker for senior night at Scottie Field. Boland, who is a quarterback for the Scotties, is looking forward to the game. "I'm excited," he said with a shrug. He is even more so looking forward to the playoffs. "I've never been in a playoff game."

Hughes, a senior on the defensive line, is also looking forward to playoffs. He is focused on defeating Malta next week, which will give Glasgow the home-field advantage for the first playoff game, which will be Saturday, Oct. 7.

"That's our goal," explained Barnett. "We don't want this Friday to be Jaden's last home game for the Scotties."

Kickoff for the game vs. Baker is scheduled for 7 p.m., but fans will want to arrive early as the senior football and cross country athletes will be honored before the game.
