Unshelved at GCCL: Accessing Digital Content

October 10, 2018

Libraries have rapidly advanced in technology over the last few years, and we would like to keep you updated as to what is available. We have many patrons whom we seldom see, but they constantly use our ebook and downloadable audiobook formats.

In order to do so, you need a current library card, and a device, such as a Kindle, Nook, Smartphone, iPad, or computer, etc. You would also need the free download of Adobe Digital Editions, and the Overdrive app or the new Libby app.

You would start at our website, http://www.glasgowlibrary.org. On the home page, you will see the Resources tab. When you click on this and scroll down, you will see several options. Choose Montana Library 2 Go. The sign-in tab is at the top right of your screen. Here you will choose Glasgow City-County Library, and enter your library card number with no spaces.

On the top right of your screen, click on Search. You can do a simple search from there, or click on Advanced to be more precise in your search. You can choose subjects (such as travel) or fiction genres (such as mysteries), and you can limit the format to the device that you have. You can choose to look at all books or just ones that are available now. For children, you can search by reading level. New books are added to the selection monthly.

Once you find the book you want, you will receive one of two tabs. If it is available now, the tab will say borrow. When you click this tab, it will ask if you want to check it out for seven or 14 days. Once you borrow the book, you can read it in your browser or download it to your device.

If the book is not available now, the tab will say place a hold. If you choose this tab, you will be notified by email when it is available and have three days to download the book or read it in your browser.

You are allowed to check out up to five books at a time and have 10 books on hold.

This is just a quick overview. If you have questions or need further help, you can contact me or other staff at the Glasgow City-County Library at 406-228-2731 or stop by 408 3rd Ave. S, Glasgow.

Happy Reading!
