Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
There's no love lost between Wolf Point and Glasgow on the volleyball court. After the Scotties were stripped of their district title last season for a rules infraction, the dynamics between the teams definitely shifted and when they met on the court, the atmosphere was charged.
Glasgow hosted Wolf Point in Homecoming action on Sept. 27, and played with determination to a lively crowd.
The Lady Scotties fought hard in their battle, but were unable to defeat the experienced Wolf Point squad and lost in four sets: 24-26; 25-16; 20-25; 19-25.
Despite the loss, Glasgow played some great volleyball. Facing a tall, veteran team, the Scotties worked hard to deny points. "We needed to pass better against a tall team like that because when we passed well we could run our offense," explained head coach Somer Hoerster. "But when the passing broke down, we ended up playing defense for too many points in a row and that cost us." Keely Fossum blocked six attempts at the net against the six-plus foot Imani Bighorn and Abby Juve. Of the team's 36 recorded digs, senior Cordelia Nickels impressed with 12 total. Tehya Campbell, also a senior on the team, finished with 12 kills, which was one-third of the team's total. Taylor Pederson led in aces, serving up five of 12, and Rachelle Glaser dominated with assists, accumulating 27 of the Scottie's 31 total for the night.
Overall, Hoerster was happy with the girls' effort. "They did well in keeping down the errors on our side," she said. "We barely missed any serves and we hit pretty well. We can build on that."
Coming up, the Scotties face Scobey and Poplar in back-to-back games on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6. They will travel to Scobey on Friday, with games scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Glasgow will host Poplar with those games scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
