Joseph Carson

Joseph Carson, 95, passed away at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital surrounded by his devoted wife and family Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, of natural causes.

Per Joe's request he has been cremated and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Evangelical Church, at 11 a.m., with military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Glasgow Elks Lodge, in Glasgow, Mont.

He was born March 1, 1923, in Wolf Point, Mont., to Charles and Margaret (LaRoque) Carson. He attended school in Wolf Point for eight years. At the age of 16 he went to work with the section crew on the Great Northern Railroad. In 1943, he joined the Army as a heavy equipment operator and as a construction laborer. Joe served in New Guinea, Luzon and Korea and was honorably discharged on Dec. 28, 1945.

In 1950, he met the love of his life in Brockton, Mont., Mary Ann Johnson. On Jan. 27, 1951, they eloped to Glasgow and were married in the Methodist Parsonage. They have been together for 67 years, proving that a man can actually love a woman faithfully and unconditionally for a lifetime.

Joe was a jack-of-all-trades. Besides the railroad he worked for Servisoft, the Glasgow School District, Saboe Oil, finally landing a job with the Corp of Engineers as a laborer and heavy equipment operator. In 1979, Joe suffered a heart attack and retired on Jan. 2, 1986, with 28 years of service.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Carson; and three sisters, Alice Boyer, Katie Belle McDermott and Josephine Berger.

He is survived by many people who loved him and laughed with him, including his loving wife Mary Ann; three daughters, Mary Jo (Bruce) Berry, of Superior, Mont., Ginger (Jerry) Rice, of Belgrade, Mont., and Debbie (Butch) Heitman, of Glasgow; one son, Rick (Melissa) Carson, of Montrose Colo .; one sister, Patricia Annis, of Denver Colo .; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins besides many other extended families, including Tan Leckie and Diane Carlson.
