Range and Pasture Noxious Weed Management Tour

Please join the Valley County Weed District and MSU Extension on Saturday, Sept. 22, for a Range and Pasture Noxious Weed Management Tour.

The tour starts at Stoughie’s in Hinsdale at 1 p.m. with MSU Extension Agent Shelley Mills starting the program with a discussion of transportation of noxious weeds in hay and the Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage program.

Attendees will carpool or ride a bus to the first stop, south of Hinsdale, to look at spotted knapweed infestations and listen to Steve Saunders, from Bridger AgVentures, LLC., discuss management options for this invasive plant as well as cheatgrass. Mills will also talk about Canadian thistle biology and management in range and pasture.

The tour will then travel north of Hinsdale to look at a leafy spurge infestation and hear Natalie West, research ecologist for the USDA Ag Research Station in Sidney, discuss biology, management and use of biological control agents.

Other range and pasture specialists may be joining the tour to discuss weed management and biocontrol agents of other noxious weeds. Dinner at Stoughie’s will be provided by our sponsors: Valley County Weed District, TNT AG, Helena Chemical Company, Northwest Farm Credit Services, Nutrient Solutions and Bridger AgVentures.

Registration is required by calling the Extension office at 406-228-6241 before Wednesday, Sept. 19.
