Scottie Cross Country Kicks off Season in Williston

The Glasgow Scotties took a skeleton crew of sorts to the Williston cross country meet on Aug. 25. With several athletes unable to compete for a number of reasons, the team didn't run to its full potential.

Individually, however, the Scotties were strong, with the expected veterans taking the lead and the rookies carrying their share of the load.

The course was set at the Williston Municipal Golf Course, which is located northwest of the city's center. The air was cold and there were a few feeble attempts at rain.

Although the Williston meet isn't a favorite of Glasgow's head coach Rod Karst, he does like that it provides a lot of good competition.

Leading the pack for the Scottie boys were the perennial favorites, Wilson Overby and Merlin McKean, who finished in the top 20. The girls were led by freshman Iris McKean as she finished 12th overall.
