Lustre Opens Volleyball Season in Culbertson

The Lustre Lady Lions were on the road for their first competition of the season Aug. 25, traveling to Culbertson for their invitational.

The girls split their first six games with three wins and three losses, then fell to Bainville in tournament play.

“We played Scobey first and lost both (8-15, 12-15), then played Froid/Med Lake,” explained head coach Kimberly Klatt. “We won the first of those 15-13 and lost the second 9-15.”

The Lady Lions defeated Bainville's JV squad in two games, 15-9 and 15-7, but dropped two games against Bainville's varsity squad in tournament play (23-25, 14-25). Sadie Brown led the team in kills with 13 and three blocks. Kassie Kirkaldie finished the day with two aces and 35 digs.

Klatt was pleased with the squad's performance overall. “The girls looked really good,” she said. “We know what we need to focus on this week.”

The Lady Lions will be in Glasgow this Thursday, Aug. 30, to take on the Glasgow JV team with games beginning at 6 p.m.
