Unshelved: DVD Highlights Available at GCCL

The Glasgow City-County library has over 3,000 DVD titles in the collection ranging from popular series to documentaries. Newly added selections can be found on the new shelf near the front entrance of the library. The check-out limit for adult patrons is five DVDs and children patrons (under 18) may check out two DVDs. The loan period for DVDs is one week and subject to $0.25 per day fine if not returned by the due date. Checked out materials can be renewed at the library or by calling during business hours at 228-2731. You may also renew items, provided they are not already overdue, on the library’s website at http://www.glasgowlibrary.org.

As a highlight, here is a listing of some DVDs recently added to the collection:

Superman: 5-Film Collection: Superman fans can enjoy a movie marathon with the five film Superman DVD movie collection: Superman The Movie – expanded edition, Superman II – The Richard Donner cut, Superman III, Superman IV – The Quest for Peace, and Superman Returns.

In honor of students going back to school, the library has Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. A family comedy film based on the 2011 novel of the same name by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts. A middle school student named Rafe, is transferred to a new school and sets out to break the rules made by his principal.

Also on display at the library is To Walk Invisible. The program aired on Masterpiece PBS and was included on the New York Times “Best TV of 2017” list. Written and directed by Sally Wainwright, To Walk Invisible depicts the evolution of the Brontë sisters, Emily, Charlotte and Anne. Based largely on Charlotte’s letters, the film follows the Brontë sisters in a three-year period that saw them rise from hardship, supporting their widowed father, to battling for recognition of their work as authors of fine literature the world recognizes as remarkable.

I Can Only Imagine is available for check out at the library. Starring Dennis Quaid and Trace Atkins, I Can Only Imagine is based on the true story behind the MercyMe hit song of the same name.

Montana PBS documentary Backroads of Montana: Speed of Sound starts with an episode about a Baker man who wants to bring the growing “Fastest Gun in the West” shooting sport to Montana. The episode also includes the Garden of 1000 Buddhas, and a segment on the search for a mysterious sound in Vida, Montana.

The library has the hilarious 3D computer-animated comedy Ferdinand. The story follows a giant gentle bull named Ferdinand who refuses to participate in bullfighting but is forced back into the arena.

The Forgotten Plague. Told through remembrances of those who lived and were afflicted with tuberculosis, the documentary reminds us of this terrible deadly bacteria and its lasting impact on the country.
