Swimmers Battle Rainy Days in Roundup

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team traveled to Roundup June 16 and 17 for their second full meet of the season, with 14 athletes making the trip.

It was a rainy, two-day meet, but according to head coach Nicole Arnold, the team persevered and pushed on to a seventh-place finish.

Leading the team with top-three finishes was Katie Kaiser (first in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and 400m freestyle), Tommi Prewett (100m breaststroke - 2nd and 200m individual medley- 3rd), Ava Reyes (3rd place in the 200m freestyle), Dalton Sand (100m butterfly - 1st, 200m individual medley and 200m freestyle - 2nd), and Natosha Sand (100m butterfly - 1st, 100m freestyle- 2nd). Katie Kaiser also took home high-point honors for the 15-19 age group.

This week's GKST Athlete of the Week voted on by the coaches goes to Addison Zoanni (11). Zoanni is a first-year swimmer who competed in her very first swim meet in Roundup where she placed 10th, 11th, and 12th in her respected events. She was able to qualify to swim on Sunday in all of her individual events, including the breaststroke which is a very technically difficult stroke to swim. Zoanni also was able to improve her time in all three of her individual events from Saturday to Sunday. In her backstroke she took off 3.5 seconds and moved up from 12th place to 10th in finals. Another noteworthy performance came from Nicholas Kulczyk (7) who qualified to swim on Sunday in the 25m freestyle, and 50m freestyle with personal best times.
