The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team (GKST) sent 18 swimmers to Malta June 9 and 10 for their first competitive meet of the season.
Head coach Nicole Arnold felt the team is off to a fantastic start. "They are showing a ton of promise with how technically sound they all swam this weekend," she explained.
A handful of swimmers landed in the top three with their performances: Raelee Dowden (1st - 100m butterfly, 3rd – 200m individual medley), Tommi Prewett ( 2nd – 200m individual medley), Jordan Billingsley (2nd - 100m backstroke), Sophia Larson (2nd – 50m breaststroke) and Ava Reyes (3rd - 200m freestyle). Other noteworthy performances came from Haleigh Huntsman (8) who placed in the top five in all of her individual events and Aubrey Farrar (8), a brand new swimmer to the team, who qualified for Sunday's event in her backstroke where she placed 11th.
Damian Cable (14) was recognized by the coaches as the GKST Athlete of the Week. According to Arnold, Cable is one of the hardest workers on the team. "Every chance he gets he pushes himself to the limit in order to better himself," she said. "This weekend, all of his hard work was evident in the pool where he took off a total of 39.5 seconds in all three of his individual races. Every single race Damian was taking off time and showing great form while doing it. We expect great things from him this season."
