Valley View Celebrates Nursing Home Week

Last week was National Nursing Home Week, which is intended to recognize the contributions nursing homes make to our communities. Similar to Frances Mahon Deaconess' celebrations for this week's hospital week, Valley View Nursing Home took on a festive and celebratory mood to honor the lives of their residents and the contributions of their staff.

According to Valley View Activities Director Hayley Young, the list of activities was teeming with a combination of arts, crafts, baseball games and summer fares.

"National Nursing Home Week this year was themed "Celebrating Life's Stories" so the week started off with an 'If I were a Poem' or picture with a face about each resident," explained Young, adding that the week also saw a hat day, an ice cream social, and authentic Indian fry bread.

No American celebratory week would be complete without a trip to the ballpark. According to Young, "Thursday was a baseball game and ballpark lunch which consisted of hot dogs or walking tacos." The week finished with karaoke on Friday. Young finished with the sentiment, "This week is always fun and is made to celebrate not only the residents but the staff too."
