Local Olympians Prepare for Big Competition

The Northeast Special Olympics Fun Day was held at Scottie Field in Glasgow on May 4. To kick off the event, a barbecue was provided from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., to allow community members to meet the local athletes.

In preparation for the upcoming state competition in Great Falls Tuesday, May 15 through Thursday, May 17, 11 individuals competed in several events, including a softball throw, shot put, 400m run, 200m dash, 50m dash and a 25m walk.

Also locally, the Law Enforcement Torch Run will be held Thursday, May 10. The run will begin with local law enforcement officers leaving the Cottonwood Inn at 8:30 a.m. and continuing on Highway 2 west into Malta and Phillips County. There will be a brief stop at Triple A Glass where the athletes will join in on the run. Officers from the Glasgow Police Department and the Valley County Sheriff's Department will carry the Flame of Hope, joining others across Montana to raise funds and public awareness for Special Olympics Montana.

From Malta, the Torch will make its way to Great Falls where its arrival and lighting of the cauldron at the State Summer Games Opening Ceremony will officially launch the Games.
