Mildred Larson

April 25, 2018

Mildred "Millie" (Ecklund) Larson, 94, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, of natural causes at Eagle Cliff Manor, in Billings, Mont.

A memorial service will take place June 2018, in Scobey, Mont.

She was born June 25, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., to Einar and Esther Ecklund. She completed her schooling in St. Paul, graduating in 1940. Following graduation, she worked in the banking field, until she met a young man, George, from Peerless, Mont., who was in town visiting his cousin and Millie's best friend.

In November 1950, Millie and George Larson, a farmer/rancher from Peerless, were married. She then moved from the big city to the plains of northeast Montana. One would say that this was a culture shock, as there was no running water or indoor facilities at that time. In January of 1952, a son was born to this union. They lived on the farm until it was time for school to start, then moved to the town of Peerless. In 1961, the farm was sold and George got into the grain elevator business in Peerless, and ended up owning the Glentana Elevator Co. in Glentana, Mont.

She was a fast pitch pitcher for the Peerless Pirates lady softball team in the early 60s. She was also the local lefse maker for the area churches when they had their annual Lutefisk dinners for many years. She was active in the Opheim Lutheran Church and the Ladies Quilting Club and the Women's Legion Auxiliary of Peerless.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; one brother; and her husband, George, in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Glenn (Carol) Larson of Billings; three grandchildren, Aaron (Kathy) of Seattle, Danielle (Dennis) of Rapid City, and Ryan (Jody) of Billings; five great-grandchildren, Chase and Steve of Rapid City, Christofer and Jon of Seattle, and Kourtney of Billings; and one great-great-grandchild, Rachel of Seattle.

Heights Family Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
