Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Kenneth T. Floyd

Kenneth T. Floyd of Opheim, age 90, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont., surrounded by his most valuable treasures - his family.

An open visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 6, at Bell Mortuary. A visitation will also be held in Opheim on Wednesday, March 7, at 10 a.m. at the Community Church with funeral services at 11 a.m., followed by burial in the Lawndale Cemetery in Opheim.

He was born Aug. 20, 1927, to Gilbert and Doris Floyd in Woodrow, Saskatchewan, Canada, and came to the Tango Community west of Opheim where he spent the rest of his life except for his tour of duty in the navy,

He married the love of his life, Vivian "Babe" Thievin, in Scobey on Oct. 1, 1950. They set up their life farming and ranching, and soon four sons, Mike, Jerry, Danny and Len joined them on their journey.

Although Ken loved farming and ranching, he also devoted a large amount of his personal time to his community. He served on the School Board for 15 years, the North Valley Grazing District for 40 years, Northern Electric Board for 17 years, North Valley Ambulance Board, Opheim Rodeo Club and the Opheim Cemetery District. He was also a vital part of the American Legion, and in July of 2017, he was honored with an article highlighting his 70 years as a member and officer.

His woodworking and mechanical skills were highlighted with his restoration of a 1925 Model T car and 1963 Econoline pickup. A mechanical "Bucking Horse" he built saw many years of fun and was shown in many parades. He fit the title "Jack of all trades." He was also a private pilot for 63 years and owned both an Aeronca and a Cessna 172 during that time.

He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need in any way he could.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Ross and Robert; and two sons, Jerry and Danny.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Vivian "Babe" Floyd of Opheim; two sons, Mike Floyd and his wife, Candy, of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Len Floyd and his wife, Rosalee, of Hope, British Columbia, Canada; four grandchildren, Kimberly Floyd of Phoenix, Ariz., Jared Floyd and his wife, Megan, of Gillette, Wyo., Jacqueline Floyd and Alexandra Floyd, both of Kamloops, British Columbia; and one great-grandson, Theo Floyd.
