Scotties Defeat Mustangs in Double Overtime

Myrick Scores 38 Points, Records Double-Double

The Glasgow Scotties closed out their 2017-2018 season with one win out of three games at the divisional tournament held in Glasgow Feb. 22-24.

The win was a hard-fought contest vs. long-time rival the Malta Mustangs. Both teams played with intensity and determination, sending the game into double overtime and the crowd into a frenzy.

Although each of the Scotties stepped up to bring down the Mustangs, Cade Myrick easily earned the MVP of the game with his astounding 38 game points and 12 rebounds.

The Scotties started out strong with a solid 13 points in the first quarter, but fell back a bit in the second and third quarters with just 10 points scored between the two. At the half, Glasgow hit the locker room on top by just one point, 19-18.

In the final quarter of regulation play, Myrick poured in 18 points to fend off a resurgence from Malta by their top scorer Taylor Matthews, who finished the game with an impressive 35 points.

The fourth quarter ended with the teams knotted up at 46-46, sending the contest into the first of two overtimes. At the end of the four-minute period, the Scotties and the Mustangs had both scored an additional ten points, forcing a second overtime.

In the final four minutes of the game, the Scotties pulled together to claim the win, with Bryce Legare adding six points, Kobe Sibley contributing three, Alec Boland adding two and Myrick with an additional four points. The Mustangs ran out of gas and only managed to add six points. The Scotties claimed the much-deserved 71-62 win, and eliminated Malta from the tournament.

Legare made his mark in the game as well, with 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists.

Chevy Boos finished with eight points and a pair of blocked shots. Kobe Sibley contributed with a little bit of almost everything with three points, five rebounds, one blocked shot and one steal. Boland finished the game with a solid five points and four rebounds, and Alex Fransen tacked on four points in the game, pulled two rebounds, and denied one shot.
