Miles D. "Bud" Geer

January 17, 2018

Miles D. "Bud" Geer, 96, of Glasgow, Mont., passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Valley View Home in Glasgow.

He was born the first of twins at home near New London, Minn., on Sept. 18, 1921, to Henry and Jennie (Price) Geer. At the age of 13, he and his family moved from the Minnesota farm to Park Grove, Mont., where his father worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, building the Fort Peck Dam, while Bud delivered newspapers and did other small odd jobs. After he graduated from Nashua High School in 1939, he worked on the Nefzger Ranch in Vida.

On Nov. 12, 1944, he married Mildred Habeck in Hingham, Mont., and they made their home in Nashua. In 1948, the family moved 12 miles north of Nashua to the farmstead known as the "Geer Place."

In the early 1960s, he began tinkering in the Rodeo Stock business. By 1971, he had a sizable rodeo stock and became a stock contractor himself. Geer Rodeo Company furnished stock to rodeos throughout Montana.

He always enjoyed watching rodeos in his later years, never losing his touch on what a horse was going to do coming out of the chute. With a sparkle of humor in his eye, he could be found telling a story that kept everyone laughing or sitting at a table playing cards with friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jennie; his wife, Millie; one son, Jeff; one daughter-in-law, Pam; one grandson, Dru; one sister-in-law, Theda; his twin sister, Meredith "Sis" Kummerfeldt; and followed by his brother, John "Jack" Geer the same day, Jan. 8, 2018.

He is survived by five children, Bob Geer and his wife, Ferna, Dan Geer and his wife, Patty, Zane Geer and his wife, Dixie, Shelley Geer and Joel Geer; 15 grandchildren, Zane, Tammy, Matthew, Callin, Doni, Tanner, Lindsey, Jason, Justin, Jake, Jessie, Tara, Ryan, Autumn and Amber; 17 great-grandchildren, Wally, Miles, Dawsyn, Owen, Cody, Tommy, Katy, Sam, Amanda, Kat, Allan, Kayla, Logann, Quinn, Buddy, Rowan and Aadn; one great-great-grandchild, Craig; nieces and nephews, Karen Taylor and her husband, Will, Kurt Kummerfeldt and his wife, Tammy, Charlene Schlotte, Diane Nagel and her husband, Pete, Beverly Freeman and her husband, Jerry, Laurie McConnell, Monte Geer and his wife, Lonnie, Mary Jensen and her husband, Dave, and Chuck Geer and his wife, June.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Evangelical Church in Glasgow with Tom Fauth officiating. Burial followed at the Highland Cemetery with a luncheon at the Elks in Glasgow.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
