Ringing in the New Year with Record-Setting Cold

Record-breaking weather was set around the area this weekend. An Arctic airmass moved into the area on Dec. 30 and began to lift on Tuesday, Jan. 2. 

During that time, Glasgow’s high of -19 on New Years Day made it the coldest high ever recorded on that date. The previous coldest high on Jan 1 was -17 in 1928.

The high of -20 on Dec 31, New Year’s Eve, was Glasgow coldest high since Feb 1, 2011, when the high was -21.

For the last in important records set for the overall year: 2017 was officially the driest year on record for Glasgow with 6.64 inches. The previous record for driest year was 1984 with 6.74 inches.
