Charles "Bill" Dolson

Charles “Bill” Dolson, 85, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, in Missoula, Mont.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.

He was born Dec. 6, 1931, to W. P. “Wib” and Susan Dolson at their home near Thoeny, Mont. He started school during the dam days at Wheeler, then was taught at home by his mother for three years when they moved to their ranch at Faranuf, 60 miles south of Glasgow. The rest of his schooling was at Glasgow.

He would describe himself as a cowhand, laborer, seismograph worker, drifter, student, writer, landscaper and most important, a Dad. He wrote many short stories. Some were published in the Montana magazine and Big Sky Journal. He also wrote a book of short stories entitled “The Showplace of the County,” published in 1977.

Survivors include one son, Joe, of St. Paul, Minn.; one daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Matthew, two grandchildren, Ramona and Samuel, of Beaverton, Ore.; three sisters, Linnell DeDobbeleer and Alice Wallem of Fort Peck and Dorothy Eayrs of Glasgow; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
