The high school Ice Dawg hockey team was in Great Falls for two games Nov. 18 and 19. The boys recorded two wins against the Americans, with one shut out for goalie Casey Mattfeldt.

The pair of games began on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win for Glasgow, and finished Sunday morning with a second win 6-2.

In Saturday's game, Glasgow's defense held the Americans at bay, allowing only 15 shots on goal for Mattfeldt to save. In comparison, Glasgow's offense recorded 41 attempts on their opponent's net.

The Ice Dawgs began the game with an early unassisted goal from Michael Uphues, and Ike Braaten was able to add a point with an unassisted goal.

For penalties, while Glasgow was called for just one minor infraction in the first period, Great Falls started things off with some substantial penalties, including a two-and-ten minute penalty for boarding/misconduct.

In the second period, the Ice Dawgs scored twice more with Kristian Price finding the back of the net off an assist from Braaten, and Uphues taking advantage of a power play to score unassisted. Both teams played a pretty clean period with just one minor penalty each.

The final period of the contest was the most productive for both teams with three goals for the Ice Dawgs and three two-minute penalties each for each team. Scoring for Glasgow was Uphues with the assist going to Kaden Fossum, Fossum with his own goal assisted by Ethan Hartsock, and Garret Lloyd scoring off Braaten and Price.

Mattfeldt earned the shut out with 15 saves.

On Sunday morning, it was another match-up between Glasgow against Great Falls. The Americans started things off, scoring the only goal in the first period, and both teams earned a minor penalty for roughing.

Braaten started off the second period with a statement-making unassisted goal in just 38 ticks of the clock. The Americans answered with a goal minutes later to regain the lead.

To finish the second period, though, the Ice Dawg's Taylor Johnson tied the game up when he hit the back of the net unassisted. It would be his first of three in the game. Glasgow accumulated two penalties in the second period while Great Falls managed to stay out of the box.

In the third period, the Americans hit a wall and the Ice Dawgs had a scoring streak: Johnson scored with the assist going to Fossum; Braaten unassisted; Johnson from Britt Fairclough; and Lloyd from Braaten and Koby Regalado. Great Falls had just two minor infractions, while Glasgow was served a 10-minute penalty for the seldom enforced “no mouthguard.”

Mattfeldt finished with 19 saves.
