Day to Day Kindnesses

Every once in a while, something happens that not only surprises you but brings you back to the realization of how blessed you are.

It has become increasingly difficult over the past several years for me to take a shower because I’ve had to step into the bathtub in order to do so. I had figured out to use two small stools to get into and out of the bathtub.

Several weeks ago, one of my sons came over to my house, tape measure in hand. When I asked him what he was doing, he told me he’d show me in a couple of minutes. He disappeared into the back part of the house, then went outside to make a phone call. When he came back into the house, he showed me some pictures on his phone, telling me they were of something he, my other son, and one of my daughters had been discussing for quite some time.

Turns out they had it all planned how to totally remodel my bathroom. A week later the project was underway.

On Aug. 19, my sons came to my house and finished installing the shower. There are several small things to do in the bathroom yet and some perfataping and painting that needs to be done.

But I now have a bathroom that has a new subfloor and linoleum, shower stall with a built in seat, handicapped commode, and new vanity. Shelving has to be built yet for towels and extra shampoo, conditioner, etc.

I am still stunned by what my children planned and carried out. They have made taking care of my hygienic needs so much easier. Their thoughtfulness, care and concern for me is far and above any level I could have thought of.

However, the day-to-day kindnesses they show me is phenomenal. Such as making sure I get to my appointments, getting groceries and prescriptions for me, grandchildren who walk with me to church and then home in an effort to help prevent my falling, taking me to live summer performances, lending a hand to help prepare meals, and so much more. I truly have been blessed.
