August 16, 2017

Clair Lou (Cusker) Brown, 59, died on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at her home in Sidney, Mont.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Sidney Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Richard Evans officiating under the direction of Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home of Sidney. Inurnment will be in the Circle Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 17, 1957, to Roy Clair "Swede" and Elsie Evelina (Lingle) Cusker in Wolf Point, Mont. She was raised in northern McCone County, naturally loved to ride horseback and loved the Badlands where she grew up and went to school in.

She met her husband, Darrel Brown, in Circle, and they were married on May 10, 1979. They had many adventures over their 38 years together.

In the early years, she was happy making a loving home for their three children, Ryan, Lindi and Austin. Always curious of what the next adventure or challenge would be, she worked at the McCone County Nursing Home while living in Circle, then went on to graduate from nursing school at Miles Community College in 1993. She worked at Poplar Community Hospital, Sidney Health Center and Roosevelt Medical Center Home Health Agency in Culbertson, later becoming the co-director of nursing at Roosevelt Medical Center before medical retirement.

She learned to sew from her mother and made everything from shirts to quilts. Many generations have been given quilts that she lovingly sewed.

She and Darrel could often be found at a jam session dancing the night away. They also enjoyed sightseeing, antiques, cooking, gardening, flowers and needle work. The flowers are still blooming beautifully showing the love she has left behind.

She was preceded in death by her father, "Swede" Cusker.

Survivors include her mother, Elsie Belzer of Savage; her husband, Darrel of Sidney; two sons, Ryan and his wife, Lacie, of Glasgow and Austin and his wife, Desiree, with grandsons, Sam and Korbin of Gillette, Wyo .; a daughter, Lindi Watkins and her husband, John, with granddaughter, Devon, of Sidney; two sisters, Dawn Claymore and her husband, Ted, of Sidney, and Noela Cusker of Huntley; and one brother, JR Cusker and his wife, Debbie, of Nashua.

Her legacy, aside from her family, will continue with all those she cared for throughout her nursing career as well as those who she will have helped in the long battle to beat cancer. She touched the heart of everyone who met her with always kind words, a smile and a helping hand.
