Onto State: Thunder Qualifies 21 Swimmers

Four Individuals and Girls' Relay Crowned as Divisional Champs

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team will be facing some tough competition at the upcoming state swim meet. The Thunder will be competing in the Class A division against Glendive, Columbia Falls, Conrad and Big Sandy.

Head coach Nicole Arnold explained that classifications are based on the amount of points scored during the divisional meet. "Last year they took the Class B title and will face a harder task this year repeating in class A," she said.

The Eastern Divisional meet was held in Sidney July 29 and 30, with 10 teams competing. The Thunder placed sixth overall with 358 points.

The state meet will be held in Lewistown August 5 and 6, with teams from all over the state attending. "This is the best competition they will have all year," said Arnold. "They will need to prepare mentally to ensure their success among the best."

Leading the team with first place finishes and divisional championship status at the divisional meet were Abigail Kulczyk (50m breaststroke), Dalton Sand (200m individual medley, 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle), Trevor Johnson (100m butterfly), and Katie Kaiser (50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 400m freestyle). Sand and Kaiser also took home high-point honors once again. The senior girls relay (Katie Kaiser, Raelee Dowden, Natosha Sand, DJ Rasmusan) snagged two gold medals for their first-place finishes in both relays.

The Athlete of the Meet for this week goes to Tommi Prewett. According to Arnold, Prewett had an amazing weekend where she was able to take off time (total of 15 seconds) and qualify in all of her individual events. She will be competing in the 200m individual medley, 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, and both the freestyle medley relays for her age group.

Ben Miller also had a notable performance as he improved his best time in the 200m individual medley by nearly seven seconds, which can be difficult to do this late in the season.
