Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Erma Miller

Erma (Horab) Miller, 94, formerly of Glasgow, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Holy Rosary Residential Living, Miles City, Mont., where she resided since 2016.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow. A graveside service will immediately follow the service at Highland Cemetery.

She was born in Williston, N.D., to Paul Horab and Alice (Efimenko), both of whom immigrated to the United States from Kiev, Ukraine. She was one of five children, all of whom were first born Americans. After graduating from Williston High School, she completed nursing training at Mercy Hospital, also in Williston. In 1945, she moved to Glasgow and married Cecil Orville (C.O.) Miller, where together they raised their only son, Kenneth. She and C.O. loved spending their time together with friends and family at their cabin on Fort Peck Reservoir, until C.O. passed away in 1987.

She worked many different jobs throughout her life, and routinely volunteered at Valley View Nursing Home. Up until June 2016, she could be found at the front desk of the Senior Citizens Center in Glasgow, where she had once been president, and had been named "Senior Citizen of the Year" in 1995. She was also a member of the Elks and Railroad Auxiliary.

She was known to be an outstanding bowler. It was not uncommon for her to bowl a perfect score of 300, which afforded her many opportunities to travel across the U.S. to participate in National competitions.

She also loved spending her time crocheting and playing cards with her array of lady friends. But no job or leisure activity was as important to her as the time she spent being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and trusted lifelong friend to all those that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, C.O. Miller of Glasgow; her parents, Paul and Alice Horab of Williston; a step-son, Russell Miller; two brothers, Ervin Horab of Williston and Edward Horab of Billings; and one sister, Elvina Vig of Williston.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth D. Miller and his wife, Charlie, of Dickinson, N.D.; two granddaughters, Angela Hilliard and her husband, Richard, of Miles City and Michelle Miller of Lorton, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Whitney Hilliard of Bozeman; one sister, Emma Thorson of Williston; along with five step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Emmett and Joyce Northrup of Glasgow.

Memorials can be made to the Whitney Hilliard College Fund at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Should friends desire, condolences can be made to the family by visiting stevensonandsons.com.
