Scotties Pin Malta in Duals

Mustangs Claim Invitational Win

Jan Kaiser/For the Courier

Scottie freshman Kaden Zimmerman came back strong after an illness shut him down last week. Zimmerman avenged his loss to Callan Mears of Malta by pinning him in two separate matches held in Malta on Jan. 27 and 28.

With the divisional and state wrestling meets on the horizon, the Scottie wrestlers competed in Malta Jan. 27 and 28.

On Friday, the Scotties and the Mustangs faced off in a dual meet, and Glasgow defeated Malta 32-28.

The following day, the Scottie wrestlers competed in Malta's invitational meet and finished second out of 14 teams, falling short of the top spot by just 3.5 points.

Leading the way for the Scottie mat men with first-place finishes were senior Tony Kaiser and junior Matt Reyling.

Also placing and contributing points for the squad were: Trevor Overvold, 2nd place; Jake Meiers, 4th place; Gabe Hallock, 4th place; Kaden Zimmerman, 3rd place; Oden Hallock, 4th place; and Cale Swanson, 4th place.

Zimmerman, who lost to Malta's Callan Mears at the Chinook Mixer on Jan. 20, bowed out of competition the next day due to illness. Zimmerman came back strong this past weekend, however, to avenge his loss to Mears twice, pinning him at both meets.

Although it was a good weekend for the Scotties, head coach Jory Casterline still looks for improvement from the boys. "They have to hate to lose more than they want to win," he said.

With the B-C Divisional meet scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 4, Casterline indicated that he is still weighing options for some of the weight classes. "I'm keeping an eye on a few different areas and may move some things around for this Saturday," he explained. Overall, though, Casterline is optimistic. "I think we're peaking at the right time," he said.

The divisional tournament will be held at Scottie Gymnasium and matches start at 11 a.m. Three GHS seniors, Tony Kaiser, Gabe Hallock and Presly Hallock, will participate in senior recognition at 10:45 a.m., just prior to the start of competition.
