Lady Scotties Earn Two Wins

Teamwork Shines

The Lady Scotties earned two non-conference wins at home last week, defeating the class A Sidney Lady Eagles Jan. 19, and the class C Lady Mavericks Jan. 21.

The starting five players for both games were Leinie Hughes, Tyra Johnson, Lexi Nixdorf, Khloe Krumwiede and Jordan Kulczyk.

The Thursday evening game against Sidney was Glasgow's annual superhero night. For the event, players wore superhero t-shirts, and fans were encouraged to participate with their own superhero apparel.

In the game, the Lady Scotties came together and played like the superheroes they were representing.

Leading the way for Glasgow were future Tetons Leinie Hughes and Jordan Kulczyk. The pair each scored one-third of the team's total points with 14 each.

Defensively, the Scotties held the talented Lady Eagles to low numbers, preventing any of them from reaching double digits.

The trio of Hughes, Krumwiede and Johnson grabbed a total of 19 rebounds off the boards, with Demi Aune and Kulczyk finishing with three each. Four of the five starters – Krumwiede, Nixdorf, Kulczyk and Johnson – had at least one steal in the game, while Hughes finished with two blocks.

Additionally, turnovers for the home team were minimal, with just nine recorded for the Lady Scotties.

Glasgow's performance at the free throw line was typical for them, as they finished with 52.6 percent success. In comparison, the Lady Eagles put up a dismal 28.6 percent.

In their second game of the week, Glasgow faced the North Country Lady Mavericks at Scottie Gymnasium Jan. 21, and for the second time this season, got the win.

It was another solid display of effective teamwork, as each of the girls saw some time on the court and played a role in the outcome of the game. The Lady Scotties finished the game with a total of 14 assists, which statistically reinforces the amount of teamwork in the game that night.

Of the 13 Scotties that played, 11 of them recorded rebounds in the contest for a team total of 31, led by Johnson with 10.

The Lady Scotties finished each quarter with consistent numbers and never trailed the Lady Mavs.

This time, the team of Nixdorf and Kulczyk dominated offensively, with Kulczyk sinking 12 game points and Nixdorf finishing with 11.

Glasgow had to work hard defensively, as demonstrated by the higher number of fouls, but they were effective in shutting down Bailey Funk, as she was unable to score a single point for her team. Additionally, they held the rest of the Lady Mavs to 10 points or less.
