Hazel M. (Bucher) Granger

Hazel M. (Bucher) Granger, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Glasgow, Mont. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, with her family surrounding her.

She was born on June 21, 1936 to Steven and Helen Bucher at the family homestead in Ferdig, Mont. She graduated from Oilmont High School in 1954, and attended Kinman Business College in Spokane, Wash. On July 21, 1955, she married the love of her life, Earl Granger. They were blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Kathy.

Earl was involved in the early development stages of cable television, which took them to numerous towns throughout Montana. She began a career in the crop insurance industry, eventually becoming the executive vice president of Crop Hail Management. Staying in the crop insurance business, she worked for Crop Growers Insurance, which took her to North Carolina and Kansas City, where she eventually retired from the business. She then moved back to Great Falls and in 2004, to Glasgow, to be closer to Lynn and Kenny. Kathy joined all of them in Glasgow in 2010.

When Earl was alive, they owned several race horses and had a great time following them around the country. She enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening. Her flowers gave her tremendous pleasure.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Earl; her father, Steven Bucher; her mother, Helen Hall; two brothers, Pat and Clifford; two sisters, Marjorie and Mildred; a nephew and a niece.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Gilbert and her husband, Kenny, and Kathy Granger, all of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Christopher Bauer and his wife, Diana, of Chula Vista, Calif .; Katie Bauer of St. Louis, Mo .; and Melissa Sigmundstad and her husband, Rafe, of Glasgow; and six great-grandchildren, Lexi, Gabe, Rachel, Blake, Margarita and Auggie.

Services for Hazel were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 at the Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. A luncheon at the Cottonwood Inn followed the service.

Memorials can be made in Hazel's honor to either Glasgow High School Educational Trust or Northeast Montana Pet Rescue.
