Scottie Boys Score Two Consecutive Wins

Lady Scotties Bounce Back From Hard Loss to Poplar

Glasgow 65, Poplar 55

(Boys)

The Scottie boys started the night off right, earning their first season win against the Poplar Indians on Dec. 20.

They had to work for it, at times battling to gain an advantage as the Indians dished out a steady stream of defense against the Scottie shooters. The most effective quarter for the Scotties was the final quarter of the game, when they out-scored Poplar 23-12. Senior Trent Herbert was a definite factor in the surge of scoring, as he dropped three 3-pointers in the final quarter alone. He finished the game with six total and was the top scorer for the Scotties with 22 points. Cade Myrick was the second-highest scorer with 18 points. Also contributing to the score for the Scotties were Tyler Hersom 11, Luke Breigenzer 2, and Brayden Ross 2. Coming off the bench, Ellis McKean recorded three points and Bryce Legare had six.

The Scotties out-performed Poplar at the free throw line, sinking 42 percent of their attempts, while the Indians only completed 38 percent.

Following the boys' game, the Lady Scotties hit the floor to face the Lady Indians. With Poplar just coming off a huge win against the M-Ettes from Malta, the Glasgow girls had their work cut out for them, and they struggled.

Offensively Glasgow could not penetrate the defense of the Lady Indians, and the score reflected it. Leinie Hughes led the team with six points. Also scoring were: Khloe Krumwiede 4, Lexi Nixdorf 5, Ashtyn Myrick 2, Jordan Kulczyk 2, and Tyra Johnson 4. The Poplar defense was so tough, Glasgow failed to score in the fourth quarter at all.

In addition, the normally effective Scottie defense could not deny the Lady Indians, with four out of five of their shooters hitting double digits in the contest. The Lady Indians also out-shot the Lady Scotties at the free throw line, sinking 78.6 percent of their attempts. Glasgow completed 40 percent of their shots at the line.

Following their Tuesday win against the Indians, the Scottie boys faced the Dawson County Red Devils in another home game on Dec. 22. The boys from Glendive were most effective in the first quarter of the game with Pacyn Partridge and Stephen Steinbron dominating the Red Devils' offense, scoring all of their team's 26 points. Breigenzer was tasked with guarding the six-foot-six Steinbron, and effectively dogged him the entire contest. The Dawson County defense also held the Scotties' top three scorers in the game to just 14 total points the entire first half.

There was a definite shift in the atmosphere of the game for the second half, with both teams playing more aggressive and taking more shots at the bucket. The shift paid off for the Scotties as they pulled off the win 57-53.

The more assertive play also racked up the fouls for both teams with Glasgow earning 12 in the second half and Glendive earning 13. Herbert, Legare and Breigenzer finished just shy of the maximum five allowed per game.

The leading scorer for the Scotties was Myrick with 18, followed by Hersom with 11 and Herbert with 10. The Red Devils were more efficient at the free throw line, completing 63 percent of their attempts. Glasgow completed 58 percent.

The ensuing game between the Lady Scotties and the Lady Red Devils would prove to be a nail biter to the end, with Glasgow winning off a deep three-pointer from Krumwiede at the buzzer.

In the first quarter, Glasgow out-shot Glendive 10-7, but the Lady Scotties lost some ground in the second quarter, scoring only four points to Dawson County's 13.

The second half of the contest was more productive for the home team, but the Lady Red Devils didn't back down. Both teams continued to score in small bursts, creating a scoreboard seesaw.

With less than 30 seconds left in the contest and the Lady Red Devils leading by a point, Kulczyk drew a foul and earned a trip to the charity stripe. She was able to sink just one of two attempts, and game play continued with the score knotted up.

Kulczyk subsequently fouled the second highest scorer for Dawson County, Wyniah Mintz, and sent her to the free throw line. Although Mintz was also able to sink just one of her two attempts, it was enough to secure the lead for the Lady Red Devils.

With seven-and-a-half seconds left on the clock, Glasgow gained possession of the ball. As the clock ticked, Glasgow inbounded on the far end of the court with Nixdorf in charge of the ball.

As they reached the half-court line, Nixdorf tossed the ball to Krumwiede and she cashed it in for three points to beat the buzzer, clinching the win for the Lady Scotties.
