Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Letter to the Editor

On Zinke

Please indulge my commentary on Congressman Zinke’s nomination as Secretary of Interior. Opinions and observations are my own and do not represent any recognized group or organization at this time.

Mr. Zinke was not my choice in the primaries preceding his first Congressional election, although I did vote for the “R” next to his name in that general election. I feel that it was at best a mistake. I voted for the Libertarian in this recent election.

Thus far, he has promoted himself as possible Speaker of the House, Vice Presidential nominee, and challenger for a Senate seat in 2018, among other things, as reported in your newspaper, the Associated Press, and internet sources. He resigned as a voting national convention delegate to make, what in my opinion, was a self-serving speech.

He declares himself a disciple of the tyrannical, despotic conservation policies of early 20th century autocrat Theodore Roosevelt, whose policies adversely affect our overall economic condition to this day insofar as our status as a resource colony addition to the American Empire dignified with token representation is concerned.

Unfortunately, we have to keep Federal representatives in office forever regardless of competence in order to have any influence at all. Mr. Zinke exhibits the militarily influenced political ambitions that brought Custer to his eventual fate, or Roosevelt’s actions culminating in the San Juan Hill bloodbath. (Check the battle reports of the period.)

Space precludes elucidation. I urge rejection of Zinke’s nomination as Secretary of the Interior.
