Herbert D. Wichmann Jr.

Herbert D. Wichmann Jr., 77, formerly of the Lustre community, died in a West Bend, Wis., hospital after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Herbert and Sophie (Lidwin) Wichmann.

The Wichmann family moved from Milwaukee to south of Richland in 1948, later moving to Lustre. He was a graduate of Frazer High School in Frazer. In 1960, he joined the army and after serving one tour of duty and after discharge he moved to Milwaukee, where he worked for Evenrude Motors. Later he became an independent over-the-road truck driver.

He was an avid amateur truck racer and was fondly called the "Flying Dutchman." He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jackson, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Elhardt Wichmann and their two children, Craig Wichmann and his wife, Elizabeth, and Candus Leibner and her husband, Larry, and their families, all of West Bend, Wis.; a stepmother, Marcia Dimaggio Wichmann of West Bend. He also had four children from previous marriages, Allen Richter Cattaneo and Cheryl Cattaneo of Billings, Charlene Scheitter and her husband, Rowan, of Cologna, Calif., and Michelle Kaye Wichmann of Culbertson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Hentz Olig and her husband, Paul, of Emerson, Iowa and Christine Wichmann of West Bend; and one brother, Christopher Wichmann, who is serving in the Navy.

Myrhium-Patten Crematory was in charge of his cremation. There was no funeral. Cards and memorials may be sent to St. Johns Lutheran Church, 2881 Division Rd. Jackson, WI 53037.
