The Scottie squad with their hardware in Malta. Back row l-r: Kennedy Schmidt, Keely Fossum, Ashtyn Myrick, Jesi Kennedy, Baylie Chappell, Hannah Mickelson, Cordelia Nickels and Sophia Koessl. Front row l-r: Madison Knodel, Teagan Fossum, Kiauna Barstad, Khloe Krumwiede and Bailee Holstein. The Scotties will play in the divisional tournament in Shelby beginning Thursday, Nov. 3.

The District Tournament held Oct. 28 and 29 did not start exactly as the Scotties had hoped. With a loss to Malta right off the bat, GHS was forced to re-group before playing Poplar later in the day, which they did with a win after three fairly efficient games.

Saturday was a whole different animal. From the moment the Scotties stepped foot on the court, they were all business. They played with stunning enthusiasm, intensity and determination, never letting down for the entire match. Along with their change in attitude came momentum and confidence, leading to even stronger play, an upward spiral that proved too much to conquer. Smart setting and hitting choices were made possible by incredibly steady passing and digging, serves were challenging to receive, and team spirit is what gave GHS the final push to victory.

The same was true as GHS faced Wolf Point in the first championship match on Saturday and showed their high level of intensity and refusal to play timidly. The girls came out roaring and never looked back, winning that match in three games. Then it was on to the second championship match, pitting the Wolves against the Scotties for the title. Focused and ready for the fight, GHS put it all on the line. Pure adrenaline, hard work and solid skills once again carried the Scotties through and they emerged as the 2016 District 2-B Champions.

The divisional tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 3, with the number one seed Scotties playing number four seed Cutbank at 2 p.m.
