Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

New Two Rivers Director Sets Sights on Downtown

Since taking over the directorship of Two Rivers Economic Growth in August, TeAra Bilbruck has been ratcheting down the organization's focus.

Bilbruck got her start working to help improve the community with the Chamber of Commerce shortly after graduating from GHS in 2009. The job also allowed Bilbruck to make useful connections as well. She gained a wealth of knowledge on how to boost business and how to draw people into the area with well-planned events. Bilbruck takes great pride in being able to work towards improving the community, and is focusing on revamping downtown Glasgow.

The Glasgow Downtown Association (GDA) was formed by Two Rivers as a committee to strategize and set goals for the improvement of the downtown area. The GDA is busy plotting on ways to increase accessibility in the downtown area by working with planners to try to accommodate additional parking, be it through the addition of another parking lot nearby or by switching to a diagonal parking orientation. The committee also seeks to improve safety downtown as well for both pedestrians and bicyclist. They plan to make a consistent crosswalk that will use a paint that is more visible than what is being used currently. The committee is also working towards the possible inclusion of bike lanes, as well as more bicycle racks downtown.

The GDA also organized an event scheduled for this coming Halloween. "Treat Street" will take place on Monday, Oct. 31 from noon to close at participating businesses. This event will feature sales and special offers while encouraging trick-or-treaters to stop in, show off their costumes and collect candy. Shippwrecked will have photographer Briana Page taking Halloween portraits, complete with a spooky background at the downtown boutique. The Courier is also participating.

Two Rivers Economic Growth's services aren't limited to improving the downtown area. The non-profit organization has been serving Valley County since 1991, pursuing their mission to make a better place to live, work and play. Two Rivers is located at 313 Klein Ave in Plains Plaza. Bilbruck can be reached at 263-4769.
