Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

John Allan Stoneberg

It is with great sadness that we announce John’s passing, after a very long and courageous battle with two primary cancers.

As per John’s request, there will be no service following his cremation and his ashes will be scattered at a later date.

He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and as a youngster moved to Burnaby, British Columbia, where he took all of his schooling. In 1959, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and spent 20 years in a career he was very proud to serve. During these years there were many moves across Canada and many friendships begun.

A career as a store owner in Banff, Alberta, followed, which brought with it many challenging and exciting learning experiences.

In 1999, he moved to Kaleden, British Columbia, and settled into the golf course community of St. Andrews.

A move from here to Oliver, British Columbia, followed, and as an avid reader and listener of jazz, he derived much pleasure from long hours spent in his library, surrounded by his large collection of books and records. He always enjoyed living life to its fullest. He golfed, curled, skied, played his saxophone, attended jazz concerts and was known to enjoy a wee nip or two of a good single malt scotch.

He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife of 49 years, Josephine (Burgart).

Grieving are his children, JoAnn of Calgary, Alberta, Shelley and her husband, Louis, of Mission, British Columbia, and Ian and his wife, Lynn, of Houston, Texas; six wonderful grandchildren, Shawn, Ryan and Kyle Stoneberg of Houston, Erik of Wales, United Kingdom, Elizabeth of Calgary and Alex Janze of Mission; John’s second wife, Carol Wilson of Oliver, who made this journey through cancer as his constant companion and loving caregiver, and her family, are all clearly missing him; James and his wife, Cheryl, of Edmonton, Alberta, Derek and his wife, Kimiko, of Kelowna, British Columbia, and two beautiful step-granddaughters, Eimi (10 years) and Ayana (8 years) of Kelowna; John’s brother and best friend, Ron, and his wife, Rose, and their family in Montana; Mody and Allan Burgart of Kaleden, who both offered constant support and love, as well as many friends far and near.

John wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses he got to know in the Oliver, Penticton and Kelowna hospitals. With very special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Kooy, and the lovely Hanna, as well as Dr. Wadhua and Dr. Petrik, oncologists at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic.

He asks, that should you wish, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society be considered in lieu of flowers.

Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family by visiting http://www.nunes-pottinger.com.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service & Crematorium, Oliver & Osoyoos.
