Mill Levy Pays for Repairs at GCCL

As drivers and library regulars in Glasgow will have noticed, there has been ongoing construction around the Glasgow City-County Library recently. Library Director Megan Haddix told the Courier that the construction project was funded by mill levy monies earmarked for improvements and repairs at the facility. The most noticeable of these recent endeavors has been the sidewalk surrounding the building.

According to Haddix, Performance Concrete and Construction was hired to replace the old sidewalk and perform other maintenance to the building. The workers also addressed issues at the back and sides of the building that had allowed water into the basement of the structure. The crew experienced some minor setbacks due to the wet weather, but the library's front entrance is currently accessible to visitors.

Adding to the problem with water in the basement, the building's old rain gutters needed to be replaced as they had become broken and were falling apart, allowing water to flow into the building. The funding from the mills also allowed the library to hire Mike James to replace the old gutters with a new system that will drain the water away from the building.

Haddix, library staff, and the Board of Trustees are extremely appreciative of the extra funds provided by the community and would like to express their thanks. According to Haddix, the extra funding will help GCCL achieve some important goals in the upcoming years and allow them to update and preserve the building. They would also like to thank everyone for their patience during the recent construction.
