Blake Lloyd, left, and Colter Barnett match strides as they charge downhill mid-way through the 1.5-mile course at the Poplar Invitational cross country meet Aug. 27. Barnett finished the race in 3rd place, Lloyd in 4th. The Glasgow Middle School boys took the team title with 45 points.

Glasgow Middle School boys extended a two-year winning streak by taking the team title Aug. 27 at the Poplar Invitational cross country meet. The Scotties won with 45 team points, out-distancing Plentywood, Poplar, Culbertson and a number of other teams that didn't field complete rosters.

The Scottie girls took third place in the meet, behind the second-place finish by seventh-grader Iris McKean. Other top finishers for the Scotties included: Daley Aune, 15th; Stevie Hartwell, 17th; Ali Kuka, 21st; and Shawna Buckles, 25th. Host team Poplar took the team title on the girls side, followed by Plentywood.

The top Glasgow boys were: Colter Barnett, 3rd; Blake Lloyd, 4th; Riley Smith, 11th; Keevan Sibley, 13th; and Jake Kuka, 14th. The boys' win continued a streak that started two years ago. Head coach Kyle Bilger says the win in Poplar gives the Scottie boys at least 15 straight team titles in middle school cross country meets.

This is the first season in which sixth graders have been eligible to run middle school cross country, and the Scotties' roster is dominated by these young runners. A total of 22 runners have turned out for both Glasgow teams. The middle school teams next meet is Thursday, Sept. 1, at Wolf Point.
