Melvin William Sorenson

Melvin William Sorensen, 74, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow.

He was born at home on July 26, 1941, in Hinsdale, Mont., to Hans and Grace Sorensen. He attended school in Hinsdale.

He joined the Airforce at the age of 18 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged.

In 1968, he met the love of his life, Diana Larsen, in Hinsdale at her parent’s farm. When he asked Diana to marry him, he said, “Would you marry me if I asked you?” and on Sept. 18, 1970, they were united in marriage at the Lutheran Church in Hinsdale. They made their home in Glasgow. He and Diana were never blessed with children, but had plenty of nieces and nephews around them at all times to enjoy.

His passion in life was his toy train collection, which he spent hours building. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and his Farmville Farm on Facebook.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, Hans and Grace Sorensen; a brother, Gordon Sorensen; one nephew, Calvin Sorensen; one niece, Janelle Johnson; a sister-in-law, Mary Sorensen, and brother-in-law, Bill Yoss.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Sorensen, of Glasgow; brothers, Edwin Sorensen and his wife, Dorothy, of Ogden, Utah, and Harry and his wife, Diedra, of Sidney; a sister, Marlene (late Bill Yoss) of Nashua; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and special friends.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial to celebrate Uncle Melvin’s life will be held at the VFW on Friday, July 29, at 2 p.m. Condolences may be left at bellmortuarymontana.com. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
